And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

And Then There Were None is one of the great classic mystery novels of the 20th century. The story is that of 10 complete strangers all invited to a secluded private island by an eccentric millionaire host. None of the guests know the host or quite understand why they were each invited to the island. The one thing each of the 10 guests have in common is that they all have a secret in their past and the only person who seems to know anything about these 10 people is the host. One by one each of the 10 guests are murdered on the island…and thus starts one of the greatest written murder mysteries of our time.

I’m almost certain that I actually have read this book before many many years ago. Sadly, it’s been so long that I honestly could not remember much about the book other than the synopsis of the plot. One day, I was perusing one of my favorite online book shops, Thrift Books , when I came across a copy of this book and decided it was due for a reread. On a side note: if you aren’t familiar with Thrift Books, you should check them out! They sell used books at great prices and they offer free shipping if you spend over $10.

Anyway…I love a good murder mystery and Agatha Christie is the master! This book definitely did not disappoint. It’s a quick, fast paced, right to the point who-done-it and it’s definitely earned it’s spot as one of the great classics.

Throughout the entire book, my opinion of who the murderer was kept changing and then at one point, I just decided to stop trying to figure it out all together and enjoy the ride. There’s no fluff, no drama, no side stories…just good ole’ fashioned mystery. The characters are developed just enough to keep you wondering who each of them really is and what they are or aren’t capable of. The whole thing wraps up quite nicely with definitive answers and finality …so if you are the type of person who doesn’t appreciate open ended conclusions, no worries with this one.

Also, I was recently informed that The The Lifetime Network is airing a 2 day mini series special of this story starting tonight! So set your DVRs, read the book and then watch the show! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

My Rating: 4/5 Stars
